Superleague Formula will make the first of three scheduled visits to Spain at the weekend for round four of this season’s championship.
The series returns to action at Madrid’s Circuito Permanente del Jarama with a programme that includes concerts by 80s legends Simple Minds and Spanish rockers Pignoise.
And UK motorsport fans will be able to watch on the ESPN sports channel with Race 1 shown at 10am and Race 2 plus the Super Final live from 11.30am.
It will be an important weekend in championship terms for Tottenham Hotspur’s Craig Dolby, who heads to Jarama with a slim 54-point lead over AC Milan’s Yelmer Buurman, following a storming weekend for the Dutch driver at Magny-Cours in May.
Belgium’s RSC Anderlecht, represented by Davide Rigon, are in third place with 183 points. And each of the top three drivers is once again expected to be a front-runner this weekend. Liverpool FC’s James Walker currently lies in tenth place with 115 points.
Meanwhile, several Superleague drivers head to Jarama fresh from the challenge of competing in the world’s most famous endurance race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Olympique Lyonnais’ Sebastien Bourdais took pole position for Peugeot Sport but saw his challenge end early due to suspension failure.
His fellow Peugeot driver Bordeaux’s Franck Montagny led for the first half of the event until suffering engine failure early on Sunday morning.
Roma’s Julien Jousse was also forced to retire after running strongly in the GT1 class, but Galatasaray’s Tristan Gommendy did make the chequered flag, finishing eighth in the LMP2 category.
This weekend €1 from each ticket sold will be donated to the Fundación de Atlético Madrid charity which promotes development, training and grassroots sport with more than 800 children and young ‘homegrown’ players.
Jarama circuit, located in San Sebastian de los Reyes 18 miles north of Madrid, is just over two miles long and includes 13 corners named after famous drivers and motorsports locations.
