GP2 Asia, Imola: Oliver Turvey saves best for last

Oliver Turvey’s Ocean Racing team ended the disrupted GP2 Asia season without scoring a point, but by finishing in eighth in the Imola sprint race the Englishman was able to post the team’s best result.

He said: “I really liked Imola – it’s fast and has some ups and downs, like British circuits. The weekend was very positive in that the team worked very well to improved our performance.

“The races went well, we got the best results possible as overtaking is very complicated here and you have to be careful to avoid confusion with other cars. I was very pleased with the experience with Ocean and all the development work done on the car despite the short time.”*

In the feature race Turvey had fought his way through to 12th but fell back when his car suffered damage thanks to a touch from Nathanael Berthon who had miscalculated his braking. He eventually finished 15th but was awarded 14th on Davide Valsecchi’s disqualification.

The team’s work on the car overnight paid off in the sprint race on Sunday, as he was able to make a strong start and climb to his eventual finishing position of eighth.
