A snow shower half an hour before the opening race of the British F3 International Series probably wasn’t what the teams had banked on – but it didn’t stop Oliver Turvey scoring his maiden win.
The Carlin Motorsports driver – the rookie driver for Britain’s A1GP team – seized the lead from fellow Carlin driver Jaime Alguersuari before the first corner and held it as others suffered on the drying track.
Alguersuari and Carlin’s Brendon Hartley pressed particularly hard for much of the race, but took each other out while fighting for second on lap 14 of the Oulton Park circuit.
Turvey made no impact on the second race of the day, finishing 12th as Alguersuari took the win. Hartley crossed the line first but was demoted to fourth as he had taken the position during a confused safety car period during which some cars had improperly gained positions.
Alguersuari and Fortec Motorsport’s Marcus Ericsson are tied for the championship lead with 21 points. Turvey is third, a point further back with 20.
