And they’re off… the third race of the 2009 season was the first that counted towards the season total in our fantasy F1 league. Unfortunately it was not a stunning one for Brits on Pole.
We were 29th at the end of the two-week ‘practice’ competition – but since only the top three carried points forward, that didn’t do us much good in Shanghai.

Things get a lot more complicated now as people are starting to use their bonus options – points from a random driver, for having one of your drivers on pole and for collecting double points.
We have chosen a fairly predictable selection for these three – our three favourite circuits, which are probably the three favourite circuits of most of the people playing.
But plenty of people picked up bonus points – and, as a result, we are currently 185th out of a field of 400 despite having three of our drivers in the points. Of course, Trulli crashing out didn’t help any.
Here are our results for Shanghai – no overall results, as the league has reset:
Lewis Hamilton 131
Nick Heidfeld 96
Sebastian Vettel 161
Jarno Trulli 52
Nico Rosberg 97
Jenson Button 148
Red Bull 100
Brawn GP 80
Interest 40
Total 905
Position after Shanghai: 185
Position overall: 185
