With testing so restricted, F1 teams rely on extensive simulator work to understand the circuits they will visit – and nowhere is that more true than the temporary street circuits where so few opportunities to gather data exist.
As part of the build-up to this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, McLaren has released footage from its race simulator of what a lap of the Marina Bay Street Circuit looks like.
Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer Andy Latham talks viewers through a rather sedate-looking simulated lap by his driver. The sun is down, most of the city is little more than ghostly shapes in the distance – but the traffic arrows and other road markings show clearly how this circuit more usually serves as a highway.
