Tottenham Hotspur driver Craig Dolby will be looking to extend his lead at the top of the standings as Superleague visits the TT Circuit Assen in The Netherlands.
And it could be an unpredictable weekend’s racing.
For one thing the circuit, in the country’s north-east, is a kind of Dutch Donington Park with a towering reputation as a purpose-designed motorcycling venue. Series organisers say it is set to provide a real challenge for their V12-powered 750bhp single-seaters.
For another, very few Superleague drivers have any previous experience of the track and they have just two 50-minute practice sessions to rectify that before qualifying.
Drivers other than Dolby who are tipped to do well include Olympique Lyonnais’ Sebastian Bourdais who won the second race at the series’ Silverstone meeting.
He also holds the outright lap record for Assen, claiming pole position with a time of 1:18.756s during his Champ Car World Series appearance there in 2007 with Newman/Haas/Lanigan.
Three Dutch drivers and one local club, PSV Eindhoven, will keep the home fans happy. Yelmer Buurman appears for AC Milan, Chris van der Drift for Olympiacos and Robert Doornbos for Corinthians.
At Silverstone van der Drift took podiums in two races and won €50,000 in the ‘dash for cash’ Super Final.
Doornbos will be hoping for improved luck on home soil with Corinthians after enduring a difficult return to the championship in Britain. Narain Karthikeyan will be taking the wheel for PSV.
Also lining up on the grid and hoping for a better result than last time will be British driver James Walker who appears for Liverpool. In Silverstone he retired from both races after incidents that sent him off-track.
Flamengo’s Duncan Tappy, who shares his drive with two others, will be replaced by Franck Perera for this race.
