Watch out, all you racing fans. Your sport’s becoming truly mainstream now…
Terrestrial broadcaster ITV has announced that it will be the first to show the Autosport Awards Ceremony in the event’s 26-year history.
The annual bash, which it has dubbed ‘the Oscars’ of motor racing’, is being shown in an hour-long programme presented by Steve Rider on Tuesday December 4 from 11.20pm on ITV1
The event itself takes place on Sunday evening at Grosvenor House Hotel in London. It is expected to attract an international audience of racing big names. And it will not surprise you in the least to learn that one of those is Lewis Hamilton.
He’s got himself in the running for several awards, including British competition driver, international racing driver and rookie of the year.
Mark Sharman, ITV’s director of news and sport, said: “It has been a fantastic year for motorsport on ITV, with viewing figures for Formula 1 up by over 40 per cent, and we are very pleased to be closing the season with this popular and often unpredictable awards show.”
