Opinion is split within F1 about the Valencia street circuit, located on Spain’s eastern coast, and making its first appearance in the calendar for this year’s European Grand Prix.
Some relish the chance to see the cars performing on its challenging twists and turns, while others think street circuits are the past, and custom-designed venues like Bahrain and Turkey represent the future.
It’s a high-speed circuit on which there are real concerns about tyres – Bridgestone has already raised its concerns about one section with the FIA.
And things might be livened up even more by the weather, with heavy showers forecast for Saturday, the day on which qualifying is scheduled to take place. That could shuffle the deck a bit, although the forecast for race day itself is for sunshine.
